Your child will bring home a list of spelling words each week to practice through optional sorting or writing activities. These words will assessed weekly. We will not have spelling lists on short weeks of school.
Reading
We encourage students to read or be read to nightly at home. Students should record those reading minutes on their reading log. The third grade reading goal is 75 minutes a week, 300 minutes a month. Your child should record their minutes read on their reading contract, and return the contract to school each Friday.
A weekly fluency lesson will come home each week to be completed with a parent. Students will also be assigned quarterly book projects to complete at home.Math
Your child will have a home link to complete nearly every night. They may also bring home unfinished math journal pages to complete at home when necessary. Math homework is always due the next school day unless otherwise noted, and should be completed neatly in pencil. Use the Everyday Math parent handbook given at the beginning of school as a reference to help your child with their assignments.
Students will also work on a math contract at home each week. Use the math contracts to record at least 30 minutes weekly spent practicing math concepts through flash cards, fact triangles, timed tests, Sudoku, math games, etc. The math contracts are due every Friday, but will not be sent home on short weeks of school.
